Gemma (Henfield)
Hi, I’m Gemma! I’m a local author looking to share my debut erotic novel, Bound By Desire, with readers who appreciate a story that balances heat with heart. I’m eager to hear the unfiltered perspectives of a book club and dive into the themes of passion and power that drive my characters. Here is a glimpse into the world I’ve created: Set against the romantic backdrops of Rome and Petworth, 'Bound By Desire' weaves a tale of unexpected passion between two individuals from vastly different worlds. Lord Damian, a charismatic nobleman poised to inherit his family's prestigious estate in Petworth and assume the title of Earl, finds his carefully structured life overturned by a chance encounter. His attraction to Isabella, a sharp and sophisticated investment banker, is immediate and undeniable. Isabella, equally captivated by Damian's charm, finds herself drawn into a whirlwind romance that defies her pragmatic nature. Their connection is intense, fuelled by a potent mix of desire and intellectual spark. However, their path to true love is far from smooth. 'Bound By Desire' explores the complexities of their burgeoning relationship as they navigate Damian's dark past, personal obstacles and his father's accident which results in death, that threaten to tear them apart. Damian's impending responsibilities and the expectations of his aristocratic lineage battle with Isabella's independent spirit and modern sensibilities. As their quest for lasting love unfolds, they face unexpected twists and turns, an accident which see's Isabella hurt, seductive temptations, and emotional trials that test the very foundation of their bond. The novel promises an erotic, sultry and intriguing journey, where passion and destiny intertwine in the heart of timeless Rome and Petworth. I am open to doing Q&A's too.

LizT (Billingshurst)
I’ve been trying to write a book for 10 years, and have now taken a few courses to enable me to get it out of my head and down on paper (well, laptop). I’m feeling more confident and am writing daily. I’m at the point now that I need to discuss my plot, share ideas, and discuss other peoples writing as a mutual learning group. I am also looking for beta readers to give me honest feedback and critique my work. My main motive is to achieve my goal of writing a book from start to finish, but am interested to explore the publishing world.

soph (Crawley)
I’ve never been to a book club before, looking to try something new and connect with other people in their 20s. I’ve liked romance and thriller books in the past and would prefer groups that are low pressure with perhaps slightly shorter books that I can read around work commitments :)

Carolyn (Worthing)
age 75. Read a lot more since retiring. Some of my favourite authors are EL Doctorow, Tim Gautreaux, Annie Proulx, Barbara Kingsolver and so many more. I dislike fantasy/science fiction but would love to discuss any book within reason.

I've always been a reader - anything that's well written. Have been re-reading Slow Horses lately, not just because of the TV adaptation, but also because Mick Herron is such a gifted writer. His books make me laugh out loud. I love to talk about good books I've read and to get ideas from others as to what to read next. My partner is heavily into fantasy fiction but I can't seem to get my head round that particular genre but I'm willing to be encouraged in any direction. I'm now retired. Do the usual stuff - walking a fair bit, enjoy cinema, and am a sucker for a good glass of red with any kind of cheese. Would love to meet some more people in the area, not just to talk books but can't think of a better way to get to know others.

Rob (Worthing)
We ga=have recently started a book group in Worthing that meets about once every four weeks. Our next book in The Calculation of Volume by Solvej Balle. It's not a maths text book but a thoughtful novel about a woman who gets stuck in the 18th November. A sort of Groundhog Day, but more thoughtful. We are nest meeting on Monday 13th April at 7 pm.

Annette (Chichester)
I’m a retired teacher and a lifelong book lover — a self-confessed bookaholic who usually has at least one fiction and one non-fiction book on the go. I’m an introvert and neurodivergent, and I really value quiet, low-pressure spaces where people can just enjoy being themselves. I’m exploring the idea of starting a Silent Book Club in Chichester. The idea is simple: bring your own book, read quietly together for a while, and chat afterwards only if you feel like it. There’s no set reading, no pressure to talk, and no “book club homework”. It’s very much aimed at people who love reading but don’t always enjoy traditional book groups — especially introverts, neurodivergent readers, and anyone who likes calm, companionable silence.

Hildah (Chichester)

Hildy (Chichester)
I mostly read romance and love stories with strong chemistry and emotional depth. I’m also into dark romance sometimes, especially books with complex characters. I’d be happy to meet up about once a month. I’m open to making friends through the group and having easy, fun conversations about books. I’d love to get recommendations, share favourites, and also try books I might not usually pick for myself.
Hildy recommends:
