Mima (Horsham)

Hello :) I am a 21yr old aussie sorta new to the area. I work a 9-5 and outside of work ya can normally find me journaling, at the beach, cooking, gardening, on a walk, or snuggled up with my cats! I would like to get more into reading sort of for an escape but also to learn. I am not really sure yet but I have previously enjoyed historical memoirs, however they are a bit sad.

Irena (Haywards Heath)

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember, so I have been thinking of joining a local book club since moving to West Sussex in 2020, but I couldn't find one. I'd be happy to meet new people and occasionally gather to chat over a cup of tea in a local pub or cafe. With my son off to uni this year, it feels like the right time to make another effort in this direction. Regarding my preferences, I like reading historical fiction, thrillers, dramas, and detectives. I often alternate fiction with nonfiction, preferring books about history. Lastly, English isn't my first language in case it's important to someone, but I haven't had problems communicating with others so far.

Kate (Littlehampton)

I love reading and sharing book recommendations. I read a range of genres and enjoy discovering new authors. Amongst my current favourite authors are David Mitchell, Kate Atkinson, Ned Beauman and Jasper Fforde. I'd like to find a book club to share my love of fiction with others.

The characters and the setting were equally engaging. The story spanned varied times and lives, beautiful relationships, places and art.

JOHN (Littlehampton)

Like reading literature. Would happily join play reading too. Would enjoy meeting others to talk about and recommend favourite books.

JOHN recommends:

Mayflies
by Andrew O’Hagan | Buy this book
One of the best novels I’ve read about male friendship. It covers two chunks of time, one when a group of friends are young and on the Hacienda club scene, following The Smiths, and then much later when they’re holding down jobs and coping with major problems. Moving and real.

Helen (Arundel)

I love being drawn into a book, when you just have to have a quick 2 pages before you can carry on with your day! It is only recently, as I no longer work full time, that I feel I have time to indulge in a book. I am looking to meet similar people, and to read books I wouldn’t necessarily choose myself.

Helen recommends:

The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page

I enjoyed the different relationships that the main character, Janice, had with others in the story.

Escapees Book Club (Haywards Heath)

Unpretentious and game for a laugh. Curious and hungry for different stories. Slightly less keen on sci fi, always an open heart for deftly told romance … but open to persuasion in any genre. Monthly in pubs.

I used to read a lot but have got out of the habit over the past few years! Am hoping that a book club would encourage me to read more, and also explore new authors and genres.

bookworm780 (Worthing)

I enjoy reading about anything and everything, I've dabbled in non-fiction such as economics, health and fitness, nutrition and pension planning. I have also become very fond with classics (Dostoyevsky, Dickens, Conan-Doyle), but also enjoy general fiction, horror and fantasy styled books. I want to join a book club to find new recommendations, share my passion for reading and to gain friends.

bookworm780 recommends:

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Crime and Punishment

It is the best book I have read, it's perfect in the way it shows guilt and shame as well as the importance of relationships with family and friends. It is a long book but the length is worth the quality of detail for each event that transpires. I will re-read this book again and again

Rachel (Horsham)

I am wondering whether there would be any interest were I to start a book club here on the Graylands Estate Horsham in September maybe? Currently looking for great suggestions to put on my kindle while I'm in France. Ex opera singer, dog owner, coffee and cocktail drinker. Please message me if interested in the book club info@racheltaite.co.uk

Part of a trilogy following the nursing journey of the author during the first World War. A rare personal look at that era that reads like a beautiful novel rather than a boring old history book. Really gave me an insight into the lives of my grand parents and great grandparents.
