I’m 28 and recently got back into reading, which I’m really enjoying. Never been a part of book club before, but thought it would be nice to talk to people who share similar interests

Marie (Worthing)

I'm a busy person with a childish sense of fun and enjoyment of life. I love being outside and walking with my partner and our dog. I live near the sea and enjoy swimming all year round. I'm happiest when I'm being active and I try to do yoga daily and some sort of dance based or cardio class.

Marie recommends:

The Mission House by Carys Davies

It's a beautifully written book about an average Englishman and the way she writes makes you feel like you are in India too. It's not very long so won't take ages to read.

Marie (Worthing)

I've loved reading since I was a child, I used to disappear into The Famous Five, Malory Towers and The Secret Seven books, leaving the real world behind. I've always loved the escapism and total immersion I feel when reading. As a teenager I was often laid up with glandular fever and used to read my Granny's Mills & Boon books, often a book a day (now I know where I got my ridiculous younger ideals of love and romance!?) I've spent the last decade or so reading a lot of crime novels and love Jo Nesbo, Peter James, Michael Connolly, Val McDermid etc. However my mother-in-law is a book addict and short story author and has introduced me to a variety of books and authors and I've loved reading something new but wish I had a gang of like minded bookworms to discuss it with.

Kristine with a K (Crawley)

I’m 26 , recently got back into reading and really enjoy it . I would love to meet people with similar interests. I’m looking for a new hobby so thought I would start with a book club. I’ve never been to a book club before, so a little nervous . I enjoy reading thrillers and romance novels but open to trying different genres. The most recent book I enjoyed reading was “The housemaid” by Freida McFadden.

I am interested in joining a book group. I tend to go for easy reads with a happy ending. But am open to other genres. I would love to meet some new friends and have an activity that doesn't revolve around my lovely children!

Mima (Horsham)

Hello :) I am a 21yr old aussie sorta new to the area. I work a 9-5 and outside of work ya can normally find me journaling, at the beach, cooking, gardening, on a walk, or snuggled up with my cats! I would like to get more into reading sort of for an escape but also to learn. I am not really sure yet but I have previously enjoyed historical memoirs, however they are a bit sad.

Irena (Haywards Heath)

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember, so I have been thinking of joining a local book club since moving to West Sussex in 2020, but I couldn't find one. I'd be happy to meet new people and occasionally gather to chat over a cup of tea in a local pub or cafe. With my son off to uni this year, it feels like the right time to make another effort in this direction. Regarding my preferences, I like reading historical fiction, thrillers, dramas, and detectives. I often alternate fiction with nonfiction, preferring books about history. Lastly, English isn't my first language in case it's important to someone, but I haven't had problems communicating with others so far.

Kate (Littlehampton)

I love reading and sharing book recommendations. I read a range of genres and enjoy discovering new authors. Amongst my current favourite authors are David Mitchell, Kate Atkinson, Ned Beauman and Jasper Fforde. I'd like to find a book club to share my love of fiction with others.

JOHN (Littlehampton)

Like reading literature. Would happily join play reading too. Would enjoy meeting others to talk about and recommend favourite books.

JOHN recommends:

Mayflies
by Andrew O’Hagan | Buy this book
One of the best novels I’ve read about male friendship. It covers two chunks of time, one when a group of friends are young and on the Hacienda club scene, following The Smiths, and then much later when they’re holding down jobs and coping with major problems. Moving and real.

Helen (Arundel)

I love being drawn into a book, when you just have to have a quick 2 pages before you can carry on with your day! It is only recently, as I no longer work full time, that I feel I have time to indulge in a book. I am looking to meet similar people, and to read books I wouldn’t necessarily choose myself.

Helen recommends:

Escapees Book Club (Haywards Heath)

Unpretentious and game for a laugh. Curious and hungry for different stories. Slightly less keen on sci fi, always an open heart for deftly told romance … but open to persuasion in any genre. Monthly in pubs.
