I have always been a lover of books, ever since I was a kid at school. My favourites used to be romantic novels especially by Denise Robins. However now that I am retired, I tend to read more thrillers and crime stories. I also like to meet other like-minded readers as I am also a sociable person and want to make new friends.

Hi, I’m Elliot. I’m 29 and new to the area, so I’m trying to make the effort to get out a bit and meet some new people. I’ve always enjoyed reading, especially fantasy and science fiction, although I do like a bit of romance now and then as a guilty pleasure. I thought joining a book club would be a nice way to meet people, talk about books, and maybe read a few things I wouldn’t normally pick up myself.

I find that all I do with my time is work and see friends but it’s all very repetitive and I feel like I don’t have any actual real hobbies, I’ve always enjoyed reading but don’t really have the motivation to actually do so, and feel like mixing with a new group of people with a topic to talk about could be fun and interesting

I’m a pensioner who is still active. There used to be a book group at the local Braintree library until the Pandemic when it closed. Since then I have spoken to the Librarian who was completely unhelpful. Apparently no book clubs are currently running which is such a shame.

Hello everyone, I'm 32, and I am pretty new to the area since we moved a couple of months ago. Because of my job I haven't be able to make friends. Books are my sweet escape, i love romance/fantasy/dystopian ; some of my favourite books are Fourth Wing, Throne of Glass (the absolute best) & Crescent City. I'm not the best in reviewing books, but i love to talk about them and share my passion. Pilates and coffee runs are also on the table :)

Hi, I'm a 28 year old who has recently moved to Braintree and am looking to make friends in a relatively low stakes way in the local area (Primarily Witham, Braintree and surrounding villages, but as books can be discussed over text, I'm open to hearing from a wider area). I'm not great at socialising initially so I thought 'Hey, I love reading books, if somebody in a simillar situation wants to recc me a book or recieve a book recc in return and we could discuss it, that would be a nice chill way to start a rapport over a shared interest. I primarily like science fiction and fantasy but I'll read pretty much anything, especially if you give me a reccomendation of it. I'm currently reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and although I think it starts off a bit edgy and over the top, I have to say I really like how it develops and especially its world building. I can talk about world building for hours. I have also posted on the tabletop sister site and do watch seasonal anime with my wife, so if you wanna chat about what's currently airing or reach out to me regarding a game night, please feel free to.

I've always read books on and off throughout my life and can be a slow reader especially if I can't get into the book. I started with the "classics", then went to crime and thriller and have recently found my way to romantasy, which might be my favourite so far. Have recently moved to Essex - good to get acquainted with folk who love books. I try to alternate novels with non-fiction - have recently read "Golden Hill" by Spufford which is top notch historical fiction. Am also keen on aviation, steam railways, military history. Braintree Library has a book group (according to the Net) but crime which is not a genre I read much.
