I’m a recently retired 71 year old female. I’ve always loved reading. I like most genres apart from the Mills and Boon style books. I often struggle to find a new good book after I’ve finished reading the current one so I though a book club would keep me well stocked and able to discuss the books I’ve read with like minded people.

Hello. Really got into reading again in 2023 and would like to keep this going whilst meeting some new friendly faces. Looking for a relaxed book club in Rayleigh, as I really enjoy chatting and sharing thoughts on my reads.

Caxton\\\'s Book Club

Meets at Caxton Books & Gallery on Run by Sally Johnson Library service We run 2 monthly book groups. The first Monday and first Wednesday of the month. We have around 50 members, but members can\'t always come to every meeting, so we generally have around 14-18 at each meeting. We charge £3 subs and we serve free wine and refreshments. We read a wide range of books which are all on our website. I chair the group, but it is a very open, friendly discussion and I try to ensure that everyone gets a chance to express their opinions. Every two months we also run a supper book club, where we often have visiting authors. For example in February 2012 we had Alison Pick who was on tour from Canada for 5 days promoting her novel \'Far to Go\' and in April 2012 we have Dame Harriet Walter, the celebrated actress, who has also published two books. June 30th 2012 is National Reading Group Day and we have two Bloomsbury authors coming to discuss their latest novels - Vanessa Gebbie\'s \'Coward\'s Tale\' and Stephen May\'s \'Life! Death! Prizes!\' We ran this event last year and it was a really lovely evening. We are hoping to engage as many reading groups as possible, so would love to hear from you. Details of all are events are on our website: www.caxton-books.co.uk or you can follow us on twitter and facebook. We meet at: 37 Connaught Avenue, Frinton on sea, Essex, CO13 9PN Accepting new members

Rayleigh Vineyard Book Club

The book club, run by Hellen Riebold, holds its meetings at an address off Trinity Road in Rayleigh, Essex. This is a very welcoming and friendly group consisting of mostly women, but some men join as well. We usually start the meeting with coffee and cake (pre-Covid times) and have a brief chat. Don't be discouraged if you couldn't read the book as there is always someone else with who you can discuss nuances of the book. There are about ten committed members in the club right now. Some previous books that we've discussed include "A Thousand Splendid Suns", "It's Not About The Bike", "If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things" and "Letters from Pemberely", among others. We meet uninterrupted every second Sunday of every month at Rayleigh, Essex and welcome suggestions and new members with affection and warmth. This is any individual run and so we restrict any religious inclination during the meetings. Please feel free to join at our contacts if are lured by books and cafe, meets at Rayleigh, Essex, and want to channel head on with us first.
