Lana (Hornchurch)

From childhood I've always been an avid reader, my favourites ranging from The Secret Garden to the entire Rick Riordan universe. I went on to study English at Sixth Form, and I still love reading for fun. I want to expand my reading genres, and expand my social circle to people who also enjoy reading for fun but also reading to ignite thoughts and debates!

Mica (Hockley)

I’m a 29-year-old originally from Argentina, now living in Essex, and I’m looking to join a book club to connect with fellow readers and share my love of stories. Reading has always been one of my favorite ways to unwind and explore different worlds, especially through romance, dark romance, and thrillers. I’d love to be part of a group where we can have thoughtful discussions, exchange recommendations, and enjoy discovering new authors and perspectives together.

Pratham (Colchester)

Hi, I’m currently studying FinTech at the University of Essex and living in Colchester. I’ve recently started reading more consistently and have really begun to enjoy it. I’m especially interested in psychology, fiction, and books that make you reflect a little deeper. I’m joining to meet like-minded people, discover new books I wouldn’t normally pick up, and have thoughtful but relaxed discussions. I’m open to different genres and looking forward to learning from others’ perspectives.

It's a satirical look at how big business, social media and politics collide. Who is really pulling the strings? Where does power really lie? All against the backdrop of a conflict taking part on a tropical island thousands of miles from Washington DC.

Jodi (Basildon)

Hi I am a woman in my 40s who has always loved reading and mostly used to read thrillers, my favorite author of this genre being Karen Slaughter. However recently I have wanted to try reading some of the classics having just finished George Orwell’s 1984 an Animal farm which were both amazing, and I am loving working my way through my new classic reading list! I don’t know many other people who love reading like I do and would love to join a group and meet likeminded people and discover more genres and books that I haven’t tried yet.

Jodi recommends:

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

It’s so different to anything I have read before, I love the depth of all the characters, the details in the authors descriptions of environment and the way the main characters change but you remain invested in all of them.

George (Colchester)

Hi, I am 27 and always happy to chat about books! I already attend a book club in Colchester but I am open to join more or even chat with other book-lovers over coffee. I live in the Colchester/Ipswich area. I like fantasy, thriller and occasionally historical non-fiction but could likely be persuaded to read from any genre.

George recommends:

Fantastic worldbuilding & always great to read fantasy that isn't afraid to move away from the common tropes of the genre!

WayneB (Harwich)

I have recently written my first short story. I have had the idea in my heads for over 10 years and worked on it in fragments. My step-son did a film degree and started me on this path. Originally I was writing a screenplay for him to look at making but as i recently got into more i decided my turn it into a story. I have been off work recently due to operations. This has given me the time to revisit the story. I do not have any school qualification as I dont complete school. I know my spelling and grammar need work but my wife and step-son have been helpful, albeit maybe a little biase. I would like to know where my story lands and how other people do theirs.
