Kate

I've got a job that's quite boring so I read a lot to pass the time. I've been trying to read a book a week for the last few years. Sometimes one will take a month then I'll get through 3 in a week! Books are my escape and I'd like someone to share my enthusiasm. I read a wide range of things and I know there's great stuff in all genres but my favourites are probably Sci-Fi and dystopias. I definitely read more non-fiction though: science, history, politics, comedy and autobiographies mostly.

Kate recommends:

Babel by R.F. Kuang

It took me a while to get into this and I thought it might be a bit too academic for me but I persisted and it really paid off once I understood the ideas coming together. It combines history and Sci-Fi to tell important truths about the world which I was somewhat ignorant of. Best book I've read this year.

I am 38 years old looking to make new friends who also enjoy reading. My genre of reading has increased in recent years, so will to give me most books a chance...just not fantasy yet, haha.

Annie P

I am over 50, love reading and would like to join a book club nearby. It would be good to combine this with an odd wine or two and not too serious!

Annie P recommends:

Life of Pi
by Yann Martell | Buy this book
It evoked discussion about religion, identity, family loyalty. It combined this with fantasy and was very well written. Easily understood but could be interpreted in different ways.

I'm a mum to a one year old. I'm looking for a weekday evening book club to start spending some time on myself again! I like literary fiction, modern classics, and horror. I'm also a scientist and enjoy non-fiction books about science.

Erin recommends:

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

I love stories where it is ambiguous whether there is a supernatural entity or whether people are juat going mad, and this is the absolute best of them!
