Seriously Grandma! (Lyndhurst)

Hello! I’m recently retired and, having sorted through most of the things that have needed sorting for years, I’m now looking for new stimuli. I read every day and get restless on the rare occasions when I don’t have a book on the go. I love my home - especially the kitchen - my garden, my husband and our children and grandchildren. But they are scattered over the globe now and I miss them a bit, though we chat via the computer screen. I am in the New Forest area and would love to hear from anyone who likes to lose themselves in a stonking novel!

Where the Crawdads Sing

I had no interest whatsoever in the hot, swampy, humid Deep South of America before I read this book, but it consumed me from the first page. Unfortunately, the film of the book was not worth seeing, apparently, so I’m glad that I didn’t.

Barbara (Aldershot)

I've always loved reading and usually have several books on the go! I read a range of genres although am currently partial to crime/thrillers and dystopian stories. Have a few go-to authors where I'll read anything they publish but am always finding more to add to the list! I don't tend to reread books and will DNF if I'm not enjoying something - life's too short and there are still too many books I want to read! I prefer physical books as I get too distracted if I read on a screen. In my past life I was a school librarian & I've belonged to various book groups over the years but I'm now missing the lovely book chat!

Barbara recommends:

In The Blink Of An Eye by Jo Callaghan

This book has received a lot of hype of social media (which often puts me off) but decided to give it a try when I saw it in my local public library. Glad I did as I stormed through it! The main character, Kat, is a police officer who is given an AI-powered detective (Lock) to work with as part of a cold case project to prove that AI can improve police procedures and outcomes. Sounds strange but the relationship works! There's lots of back stories too that add interest. It's a detective crime genre with a touch of sci-fi! Book 2 is out now (and I've already read it) - can't wait for book 3!

I am constantly looking for new book recommendations, and none of my existing friends share that passion. I love reading all books (except non-fiction), but have a particular penchant for Mystery and Psychological Thrillers. An added bonus would be making friends along the way
