Maria (Aldershot)

I love the suggestions made by others in a book club that lead me to read books I might not have picked up. Then hearing what others got out of reading books that give new insights. Also to meet people and enjoy a social event.

Emily (Basingstoke)

I'm 26 and wish to find like-minded, book loving friends in my area. I'm an introvert by nature but connecting with people who have similar interests like reading will certainly help to bring me out of my shell. I love all kinds of fiction including romance, historical fiction & fantasy.

I couldn’t put this book down. Combined two of my favourite things - multiple povs and set in different time periods! Balanced darker themes, wit and magical realism really well. The short chapters certainly made it a page turner.

Jessie (Winchester)

Charity worker, mother of 2, ex-teacher, loves travelling but doesn't get enough opportunity to do so any more! Busy trying to stay on top of taking care of myself and family. Reading is a great pleasure and I enjoy sharing ideas on books read with like-minded people. I moved to Hampshire from Bristol where I was a member of a lively book group and I'd like to find something similar locally. I enjoy historical and dystopian fiction, character-led novels, biographies and a range of nonfiction.

Jessie recommends:

A page turner, set in a near future that is very recognisable with well rounded characters, a wide-ranging amount of scientific and archeological speculation and an unsettling plot twist. Beautifully written.

Lesley (Lyndhurst)

Hi, I live in Dibden Purlieu on the edge of the New Forest. I’ve recently retired from working in positions with extensive travel. I haven’t been home long enough to meet people with similar interests. I have always loved reading and now I have the time to read more fiction. Particularly love thrillers, whodunnits, etc. Anything that gets the brain going with twists and turns. I’m happy to travel throughout the New Forest. Please contact me if you’re already part of a reading group open to new members or would like to start a new reading group and making like-minded friends.

Austin (Winchester)

I look for books that give the words to experiences that I fail to. I used to almost exclusively read nonfiction on mathematics and computing, but now I almost exclusively read fiction. I would like to make friends to read and talk with :)

All throughout beautifully written, and an incredibly bittersweet ending. I love this book, and I treasure rivers now.
White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky
White Nights

Puts into words and onto paper the common, but isolating, experience of unrequited love. I think everyone can recognise pieces of themselves in this book

Steph (Southampton)

I love reading, mostly books that I feel I can relate to, I.e life as an adult in your late 20s, romance, life choices etc. I love Laura Jane Williams and Dolly Alderton books but I’m open to other authors too! I also love reading about women in history! I’d like to be a part of a book club or just find a coffee shop we can sit in, read and share books. Let me know if you are interested.

Steph recommends:

Sophie (Havant)

I live in waterlooville. I love reading fantasy, supernatural, and romantasy. However, I would like to join a bookclub to discuss with others, as my friends are squares who don't read such books.

Sophie recommends:

The great gatsby
by F. Scot Fitzgerald | Buy this book
I know I stated I love fantasy, but this is my favourite book. The symbolism and Gatsby's ability to dream and hold onto it until the very end was beautiful, and I loved how the book made me fall in love with characters only to have my heart broken.
