Pheasant101 (Bishop's Stortford)

I love reading and am lucky enough to (usually) have enough time to read a decent amount. However, I tend to go through peaks and troughs with my reading and would to have a reason to read more consistently. I love both fiction and non-fiction and don’t really have a preferred genre, although I am not into serious gothic or horror etc due to an overactive imagination! I would love to be able to discuss books with like-minded individuals, share recommendations, and enjoy good company. I am happy for meet ups to be tea/coffee and cake during the day, or wine and nibbles in the evening (both sound bliss!).

Pheasant101 recommends:

The Magician
by Colm Toibin | Buy this book
A brilliant biography written as a novel. The prose is written in a way that rapidly draws you into the story of the life of the author Thomas Mann as well as giving insight into the events of the time, with a focus on the World Wars and how these enormous events impacted Mann, his family, and friends.

Reece (Kings Langley)

I’m 31 year old man living in West Herts. I’d love to turn my passion for reading into a means of socialising with like-minded locals. I’m usually far more comfortable reading classics, but I’m exploring more modern fiction this year too. Literary fiction will always grab by attention, but I’m up to try anything.

Reece recommends:

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

It’s a true swashbuckling, revenge-fuelled, plot-driven classic!

ZisKnow (Tring)

I'm a 44 year old male, avid reader though I've been stuck in a rut lately and re-reading old familiar things rather than branching out. Looking to meet up with some like minded readers to both gently socialise, and explore new fiction.

Very interesting as a concept but also creates a good connection with the characters, with a very emotional ending - read it over a year ago and it stays with me all the time

Mimi (Welwyn)

Hi, I'm 19. Recently got out of a major book slump due to burn out from exams. Most of my friends are not into reading hence why I want to meet more people who share my love for reading. I don't limit myself to a particular genre, open to exploring fiction books from different corners of the world. Have to admit, fantasy , thriller and crime do have special place in my heart x

The Conjurer and the Corpse by C.E.Colemane
The Conjurer and the Corpse
by C.E.Colemane | Buy this book
This book has a gas lamp / victoriana fantasy setting, a cozy murder mystery plot with a magical twist, and complex, sympathetic characters - I hope this is a book that sweeps you off your feet on first reading and provides a rich treasure trove of discovery on second reading. You be the judge!

Emily (Watford)

I’ve always loved fantasy for the way it blends imagination with deep questions about identity, power, and belonging. I’m especially drawn to stories with rich world-building, complex characters, and yes—a touch of romance never hurts.

Sara (Watford)

Hey, I’m a 32 year old book worm who loves reading. Unfortunately, being an adult means I’ve had to prioritise work and personal commitments so reading has taken a back seat. I’m hoping to get back into reading while also meeting new people and hopefully forming strong friendships along the way.
