Jodi (Basildon)

Hi I am a woman in my 40s who has always loved reading and mostly used to read thrillers, my favorite author of this genre being Karen Slaughter. However recently I have wanted to try reading some of the classics having just finished George Orwell’s 1984 an Animal farm which were both amazing, and I am loving working my way through my new classic reading list! I don’t know many other people who love reading like I do and would love to join a group and meet likeminded people and discover more genres and books that I haven’t tried yet.

Jodi recommends:

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

It’s so different to anything I have read before, I love the depth of all the characters, the details in the authors descriptions of environment and the way the main characters change but you remain invested in all of them.

George (Colchester)

Hi, I am 27 and always happy to chat about books! I already attend a book club in Colchester but I am open to join more or even chat with other book-lovers over coffee. I live in the Colchester/Ipswich area. I like fantasy, thriller and occasionally historical non-fiction but could likely be persuaded to read from any genre.

George recommends:

Fantastic worldbuilding & always great to read fantasy that isn't afraid to move away from the common tropes of the genre!

WayneB (Harwich)

I have recently written my first short story. I have had the idea in my heads for over 10 years and worked on it in fragments. My step-son did a film degree and started me on this path. Originally I was writing a screenplay for him to look at making but as i recently got into more i decided my turn it into a story. I have been off work recently due to operations. This has given me the time to revisit the story. I do not have any school qualification as I dont complete school. I know my spelling and grammar need work but my wife and step-son have been helpful, albeit maybe a little biase. I would like to know where my story lands and how other people do theirs.

stacey (Westcliff-on-Sea)

I'm 39, drifted apart from people and the friends I have left I rarely see so looking to meet new people. I spend all my time reading so a great way would be to join a book club! I read pretty much anything but I do love a psychological thriller
