Alex

I enjoy books that challenge and introduce new ideas, and find book groups a great way to get different perspectives in a friendly and informal way - as well as get underneath the subject matter. I prefer fiction but am open to other genres. I've recently retired so looking to expand my leisure activity!

Farnham Maltings Book Club

The group meets every third Tuesday of the month at Farnham Maltings, aside from August which is holiday month. Led by Jennifer Colquhoun, the library service group has around 40 members though usually there's a hard core of 12 people present. At Christmas they select a book and eat snacks while they chat. For their September meeting they decided to read "The Bonfire of the Vanities" and the next few reads are "Our Kind of Traitor", "The Yacoubian Building" and "Small Hand". The person selecting the book must introduce it and the author when they present it. Everyone votes on the book and each person gives a numerical rating. Gerald Turner was elected Chairman at one meeting as he was the only male in attendance. The group meets at Bridge Square, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7QR.
