Paul (Sittingbourne)

Hi, I know hardly anyone who reads and thus could really do with people to chat books with. I read mainly novels (favourite authors - Conrad, Ballard, Kerouac, Self, Murakami, amongst others. Also poetry and philosophy. Is there a book club in sittingbourne?!

Fabulously immersive writing, diverse characters who cannot neatly be pigeonholed or be easily identified with, sense of place and lifestyle is conveyed vividly and the storyline is unusual and inventive.

Kaz (Whitstable)

I am a 60yr old woman, work as a gardener and keep physically & mentally fit so don't write me off cos of age! I read literary fiction, mostly modern, and can provide a list of books read in the last coupla years if you are interested to see the sort of things I choose. Been in a club before a few years ago but it became claustrophobic and have been unable to find another since then.

AimeeB-52 (Ashford (Kent))

I LOVE reading but sometimes I need a push. Having studied literature avidly at school and then at universities I love discussing books and finding hidden themes or new perspectives of classics and well-loved reads that help me fall in love with it all over again. My favourite authors are Wilbur Smith and Garth Nix with Dracula being my go-to favourite book of all time. I would love to find a local book club in Ashford, or if anyone is interested, I used to run one at university so happy to start one up!

The Burning Shore by Wilbur Smith

This is a great entry point for the Courtney Series by Wilbur Smith and was the first book I read that made me fall in love with Wilbur Smith's detailed and imaginative writing. Set mainly in Africa you follow the journey of Centaine - a young woman left to survive in the wilderness of Africa after a freak shipping accident during the first world war.

I really enjoyed Normal People by Sally Rooney and would want to read books similar to that about love. I would like to meet people who like similar books to me so I can get recommendations. I'm in my early twenties and with my new job find my spare time very empty so would like to fill it with more reading.

It connected with me as I long for love in my own life. It explores the highs and lows of young love, and shows how opposites can sometimes not be so opposite. It is so well written and is really difficult to put down once started.
