I love reading and would love to connect with others. I don’t have many friends that love to read so feel like it would be good to have others to chat to! I love thrillers and mystery but am open to try new genres this year!

Parzival (Halifax)

Hi! I have been a member of book clubs through work for a few years but due to moving jobs and more recently the members gradually dropping out due to other commitments, I am looking to join or start a book club for science fiction and fantasy fans in my area as I think this genre is often overlooked or not as popular as other genres of books. A monthly book club would be ideal but open to other time frames as well.

Parzival recommends:

All Systems Red by Martha Wells
All Systems Red
by Martha Wells | Buy this book
This is the first book of a series and the main character “Murderbot” is one of the best characters in any book series. Loads of heart, funny, and great action.
Dune by Frank Herbert
Dune
by Frank Herbert | Buy this book
The first book to win both the Nebula and Hugo award. Opened up the genre to include more cerebral matters and influenced all science fiction since its release in the 60s. Fantastic story, brilliant world building, complex relationships and copious amounts of life extending drugs.
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
The Atlas Six
by Olivie Blake | Buy this book
First of a recently completed trilogy about a world where magic societies, schools, institutions operate on both sides of the law. Six people are chosen to study and promised power, wealth among other things but they have to work together for a common goal…the kicker, one must die!
Empire of the Damned
by Jay Kristoff | Buy this book
Mon dieu, I love reading these stories! The tension barely lifts thoughtout the nearly 700 pages! Kristoff can write thrillers, fantasy, action, erotica and horror better than anyone I have read! Longue vie ‘la demoiselle du graal!’

Restoration by Rose Tremain
Restoration

Written originally about the greed and politics of the restoration (reflecting the same in 1980s Thatcher years), it is also poignant and humorous

Sasha (Pontefract)

I love reading fantasy and young adult, but I'm also open to discovering new genres. I'd love to meet up semi-regularly with others and discuss books we've read.

Sasha recommends:

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries

I find the story fascinating and unlike anything else I've ever read. The Faeries are more folky than dark and brooding and definitely dangerous and it's hard to describe, but this book just has great vibes.
