Jodie (Huddersfield)

I'm 24, and a librarian so fit into the stereotype of loving to read! I have no one in my life to discuss books with, so would love to make friends with fellow book lovers :) I like quite a mix of genres, but literary fiction, magical realism and horror usually get 5 ⭐ from me

Oliver (Halifax)

Hello, I'm Oliver, 32 and live in Halifax. I am quite recently an avid book reader! I find non fictional books very interesting, in particular books like, Sapiens, Prisoners of Geography, the Silk Roads. I am very open minded in exploring other genres and would love to meet/connect with other avid readers :)

The Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall

This book is great as it opened my eyes and mind to a world I've never really considered. How geography has played such a huge role in the power houses becoming power houses, and how certain countries are blessed and cursed by their geography. It's extremely educational and it's helped me see the world for what it is.

Dan R (Keighley)

30 y/o based between Keighley and Skipton, looking for a new local book club to discuss books and meet new people. My preferred genres are science fiction, historical and adventure fiction, Gothic fiction, and some slipstream stuff. I tend to like novels that are recursive, or play around with narrative techniques and timelines. My other interests are in geography, travel and history so I sometimes read non-fiction about those topics. My other hobbies include hillwalking and book-collecting, and like to attend book fairs around the North West when I can.

The Quiet Woman by Christopher Priest

Among the best books I've read in 2025, the best I can describe this is as a mystery set against a very restrained science fiction conceit. It reads more like a mainstream novel however, making it slipstream which I am a big fan of. Alternating between the PoV of two different characters, this novel makes use of the unreliable narrator to create an uncomfortable feeling in the reader, placing it firmly alongside Priest's other, more well-known works such as The Prestige and The Separation.
