Kathy W (Epsom)

I have loved books all my life encompassing a wide variety of genres from thrillers like Stephen King to the wonderful early Monica Dickens autobiographical novels to F Scott Fitzgerald, JD Salinger, Muriel Spark, Herman Raucher etc. I have now retired but find myself needing to socialise and would love to get ideas about what books to read now.

New to the area and love reading, would like to meet some new people and talk about our shared love of books. Coffee and cake always a welcome accompaniment! My favourite genre is psychological thriller but I also enjoy cosy murder, historical fiction, general fiction and the odd cheesy romance

Some of my favourite books include Journal of a Solitude by May Sarton, Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan, and Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. Some of my favourite authors are Ottessa Moshfegh, Clarice Lispector and Lisa Taddeo. I’d love to join and book club where we meet up once a month! I’d also like to make new book-ish friends!

"...how mortal I am, how the love for the world transcends me. Love for mortal life was killing her sweetly, bit by bit. And what can I do? What can I do with happiness? What can I do with this strange and piercing peace, which is already starting to hurt me like an anguish, like a great silence of spaces?"

Hi! I used to be an avid fiction reader, but lately I’ve found myself drawn more to non-fiction—especially self-help, psychology, philosophy. I'm hoping to join a book group to discover new titles and have interesting discussions.
