Michelle (Haslemere)

I’ve been an avid reader ever since my dad started taking me to the local library on Monday evenings when I was about eight years old. My first job was even in a bookshop! These days, reading is one of the main ways I look after myself and recharge for the week ahead. I’d love to broaden my reading horizons by joining—or even setting up—a group with others who share the same passion.

I love the way Mia describes her characters. It really gives you the chance to put yourself in the characters shoes. There’s so many aspects of love, surprise and suspense and is such a good read!

the romance is nice and I really like how bubbly the main character is, maybe not the best writing but I don't read for the quality of it, just the plot. It was predictable but it was a nice cute romance

Michelle (Reigate)

Hi 👋 I'm Michelle, a 40-something, young at heart, book mad, introvert, living in the heart of Reigate and studying for my BSc in Psychology and Counselling, with a view to changing careers. You're never too late to chase a dream. I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to buying books. I enjoy practically all genres and am a passionate advocate for, and supporter of, indie authors.

Michelle recommends:

An Exorcism of Faeries
by J. L. Vampa | Learn more and buy
Set in the 1990's at Trinity College, Dublin, The Exorcism of Faeries encompasses age-gap romance, forbidden romance, professor/student relationship, faeries and fae. I could not put this book down. Jl Vampa's writing has a wonderfully, addictive fluidity to eat that will have you losing yourself amd surrendering you day to this book. This is not a story for those wanting Tinkerbell-like 'fairies'. This is a book that demonstrates the darkness of 'faeries'.

Marta (Camberley)

A regular Jane. Lattes, avocado toasts, compelling novels about serial killers, thrillers, a dark romance, and a touch of realism with non-fiction.

Marta recommends:

The Quiet Tenant
by Clemence Michallon | Learn more and buy
Everything. The pace, the slow revelations, the characters... It makes you want to scream at the protagonist, at the antagonist, at yourself. I had to force myself to put it down, on a daily basis.

Marta (Camberley)

I've recently moved to the area and I'm looking to make connections through a common passion. I have a preference for suspense/thriller books, lighter, funny novels, I won't turn away a good romance book. I also enjoy non-fiction, especially with themes of social equality, which is part of my rotation. I'd love to find people who enjoy reading as much as I do and that are up for genuine enthusiastic conversations about a person who exists only in words!

Mo (West Byfleet)

I have just moved into the area and am looking to join a book group. I’m a retired primary school teacher who has probably read too many non fiction (and children’s books) over the years and would love to broaden my fiction horizons by sharing books with others.

Mo recommends:

The Ice Child by Elizabeth McGregor
The Ice Child
by Elizabeth McGregor | Learn more and buy
It’s a sort of hybrid fiction/non-fiction text based on the mystery surrounding the Franklin expedition to find the North West Passage. It’s more riveting than it sounds.

Chloe (Leatherhead)

I’m an absolute lover of fantasy, romance, crime, and feminist literature. Love a bit of classic romance and retellings of greek myths. I would love to meet people with the same passion for reading, who also love chatting about their favourite parts!

Chloe recommends:

Circe by Madeline Miller
Circe
by Madeline Miller | Learn more and buy
The way Madeline Miller writes Circe is absolutely stunning. A strong and complex character who is someone you can understand even when she doesn’t something so against what you would. A strong woman who didn’t let her trauma take her down, who used it to forge something to protect both herself and others. A character who at times I didn't like, but always respected.
